Thatch protective coating UK
Thatching is as old as the hills and a wonderful roofing system but it has drawbacks and we at Kote Products have developed a formulation to address this costly problem with a highly effective protective and preserving coating, or rather a powerful weather defying binder to extend the life of your roof for decades.
ThatchKote is a totally transparent spray-on binder that will stop any loss of thatching reeds due to birds or monkeys with their destructive habits of "stealing" the grass for reasons not fully known to us.
THATCHKOTE CLEAR
There are in fact two different types of ThatchKote made by us, the first as already stated is clear or transparent which will preserve the colour and integrity of the thatching.
THATCHKOTE TINTED
The second formulation is to renew the look of old and "blackened" thatch roofs by adding a new grass colour tint to the binder. Simply spray the old roof with tinted ThatchKote and hey presto you have a new roof with all the advantages of protection and preservation stated earlier.
BEST METHOD OF APPLICATION (Old darkened roofs)
We have formulated this protective coating as a powerful binder, so when you are faced with the choice of "brushing or combing" the old thatch to remove the degraded grass layer this will be a matter of your personal option. The binder is that powerful that it will bind-in-place existing grass no matter its condition. You may find this hard to believe but it works and has done so for forty years. We have spent a lot of time matching the colour of original new grass thatching to enhance and renew the look of an old roof,
Proceed with caution and adhere to all safety standards for workers on your roof. It is best to use an airless spray gun to coat the thatch. Spray at close range about ten inches from the thatching so as to penetrate deeply into the grass reeds and move the gun slowly to ensure a proper wetting of the grass. We advise three coats about four hours apart on a warm day. Do not start the coating if rain is expected within three days of coating.
BEST METHOD OF APPLICATION (New roofs)
In this case you will be using the clear binder and the method of application will be the same as stated above. Use three coats for longevity and efficacy.
